TODAY
Stockton looks to start the second half of the regular season the same way it wrapped up the first half, with a win over San Jose. The Heat look to push their impressive head-to-head performance against the Barracuda to an eight-game edge on the campaign, which would be the longest win streak for either side in series history.
The Heat come into the game winners of four of the last five games overall and have recorded at least a point in eight of their last 10 games.
FIRING BLANKS
The Heat have been able to frustrate San Jose's attack throughout the season series, recording back-to-back shutouts and holding the Barracuda to just nine goals through seven games. Jon Gillies and Artyom Zagidulin, the latter recording a 2-0 shutout in Saturday's contest, have combined to blank the Barracuda over the last 129 minutes and 2 seconds of game time in an impressive stretch that has included 55 stops over last two contests. The last three shutouts for Stockton, a span that dates back to January of 2018, have all come against San Jose.
FIRST HALF RECAP
Stockton enjoyed unprecedented success in the first half of the season, the club finishing with 49 points, 148 goals, a plus-36 goal differential, a power play clicking at 27.1-percent and a suffocating penalty kill at 86.6-percent, all franchise bests through 34 games. Additionally, Glenn Gawdin's 35 points (11g,24a) over Stockton's first half set a new individual scoring high for the Heat through 34 games, besting Andrew Mangiapane's 33 set in the 2017-18 season.
QUINE STREAKING
Alan Quine comes into Sunday's game riding a five-game scoring streak, the forward claiming two goals and four assists over that span. With Quine's first period tally on Saturday, he continues his dominance over San Jose this season - now with 10 points (4g,6a) in five games versus the Barracuda.
GONE FISHING
Stockton has dominated the season series against San Jose thus far this season, running up a 28-9 scoring differential with a pair of shutouts through seven games. Along the way, the Heat have outplayed San Jose by a wide margin on special teams, lighting the lamp six times in 21 chances on the man-advantage while limiting the Barracuda to just 2-for-35 on the power play. Stockton has yet to allow more than two goals to San Jose in any game this season while limiting the San Jose to just 1.29 goals per game in the season series.
OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
Byron Froese has re-gained his scoring touch of late, scoring three goals over Stockton's last four games and recording five points (3g,2a) over the last five games for the Heat. Since returning from injury on December 14, Froese has eight points (3g,5a) in 11 games. After Saturday's game, the Heat are now 9-1-1-0 on the year when Froese nets a goal.
