January 6, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The South Carolina Stingrays visited the Gwinnett Gladiators and hosted the Elmira Jackals, Gladiators and Greenville Road Warriors this week for a week record of 3-1-0-0.
The Stingrays wrapped up the 2013 calendar year Tuesday night against the Jackals at the North Charleston Coliseum. Defenseman Zach Currie and forward Peter Boyd provided the scoring and ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December Jeff Jakaitis stopped all 38 shots for his second consecutive shutout and third of the season.
After the New Year, the Stingrays traveled to The Arena at Gwinnett Center Thursday afternoon to battle the Gladiators, skating away with a 4-1 victory. Forward Wayne Simpson led the way with a goal and two assists. The Gladiators responded Friday night at the Coliseum, handing the Stingrays their first shutout loss of the season, 4-0. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for South Carolina.
On Saturday, the Stingrays celebrated Darius Rucker Night at the Coliseum. In addition to free parking, the first 2,000 fans received Darius Rucker bobbleheads and the Country-music star and award-winning musician was on hand to sing the National Anthem and drop the ceremonial first puck. In front of a season-high crowd of 6,656, the Stingrays dominated the Road Warriors 3-0 behind forward Peter Boyd's first professional hat trick and netminder David LeNeveu's 25-save shutout performance, his third shutout of the season.
