Recap of the Week
The Road Warriors faced off against the Florida Everblades and South Carolina Stingrays this past week going 0-1-1.
On Friday, the Road Warriors hosted the Florida Everblades in the team's first game of 2014. The Road Warriors got the early lead when Jordie Johnston scored with 54.7 seconds left in the first period. Just 41 seconds later, Brad Cole shot through traffic to score the Road Warriors second goal of the game. The Florida Everblades came back strong in the third period scoring two goals to force the game to overtime. Thirty-two seconds into the OT, Florida scored to win the game 3-2. Connor Knapp made 39 saves in the loss.
On Saturday, the Road Warriors traveled to Charleston to play intrastate rival the South Carolina Stingrays. The Stingrays took control of the game early scoring just 3:39 minutes into the game. South Carolina scored a power play goal and an empty net goal in the third period to finish the Road Warriors off by a score of 3-0. The Road Warriors were unable to score during the game and was blanked 3-0. Goaltender Scott Stajcer saved 25 of 28 shots in the loss.
Week Ahead
The Road Warriors will host the Evansville Icemen this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. This is the first time the two teams will face each other this season. Last season, the Road Warriors and Evansville played each other three times and the Road Warriors won all three games.
Friday night, the Road Warriors will be celebrating Hockey Heritage Night with the game beginning at 7 p.m. Fans can come out to the ABC Party Rentals' Warriors Fan Fest before the game. Enjoy the free Kids Entertainment Zone, live entertainment, and 2 for 1 domestic beers and Mike's Hard Lemonade. The ABC Party Rentals' Warriors Fan Fest runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Plaza. The Warrior Fun Pack is also available for Friday's game. Get four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, four bag of chips, and two Road Warriors Caps for only $48.
Saturday is Furman Night and puck drop is at 7 p.m. Come out and celebrate Furman University with Furman staff, athletes, alumni and students.
Sunday is Family Fun Day with the faceoff slated for 3 p.m. Enjoy a $5 kids meal during the game and skate with all your favorite Road Warriors players after the game. Use your BI-LO BONUSCARD to receive up to four free tickets in the BI-LO Family Fun Section when you show your bonuscard at the Box Office two hours before game time.
Streaks and Stats
Michael St. Croix is ranked 12th in the league among rookies in scoring with 20 points (6G,14A).
Connor Knapp is third in the league in save percentage with a mark of .933%.
Jordie Johnston is ranked ninth in the ECHL in shots on goal with 103 in 32 games.
Justin Vaive's recent ten-game point streak (December 8-Janurary 3) ranks as the third longest point streak in the ECHL this season.
Transactions
The Road Warriors received defenseman James Issacs today from Idaho as compensation from a prior transaction. The Road Warriors signed forward Phil Bronner on Saturday and released him on Monday morning. Forward Travis Ouellette signed with Greenville on Saturday. Defenseman Bretton Stamler was loaned to Hartford on Saturday. Defenseman Andrew Himelson was signed on Friday. Defenseman Mike Marcou was recalled to Hartford on Thursday. Forward Brayden Irwin was loaned to Rochester on Thursday. Greenville traded Brett Perlini to Toledo for Scott Arnold on Monday.
