Royals Claim Forward Kevin Walrod from ECHL Waivers

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has claimed forward Kevin Walrod from ECHL Waivers.

Walrod (6'0/193) (25), a first year pro from Westside, British Columbia, was released by the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL yesterday. He was signed by Evansville on December 27, 2013, and played five games with the Icemen, recording a pair of assists in the team's 6-0 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on December 31. Prior to joining the Icemen, Walrod led the Bloomington Thunder of the Southern Professional Hockey League with twenty-three points (13g-10a) in twenty-one games. Waldron played four seasons of college hockey for Michigan State University, where he racked up forty-four points (16g-28a) and sixty-two penalty minutes in 123 games with the Spartans. After the conclusion of his collegiate career in March of 2013, he joined the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL for four games.

The Royals return to action on Wednesday (January 8 @ 7:05 pm) when the Wheeling Nailers travel to Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. That night, fans can take advantage of the Steak-umm Burger Meal and Ticket Deal where $20.00 gets you a purple zone ticket, a Steak-Umm Burger, fries and a large soda. The game night broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 will kick off with the Highmark Blue Shield Warm-Up Show at 6:35 pm on the Royals Broadcast Network.
