Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Prepare for Gladiators in Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

The South Carolina Stingrays battled the Greenville Road Warriors this week to wrap up the 2011-12 regular season with a week record of 2-1-0-0. The Stingrays and Road Warriors opened the week on Tuesday night at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Defenseman Johann Kroll, forwards Andrew Cherniwchan and Billy Ryan lit the lamp, but the Stingrays fell 4-3. On Friday, goaltender Daren Machesney made his return to the Stingrays lineup after missing 26 games and stopped 30 of 32 Road Warriors shots in a 3-2 victory. Forwards Maxime Lacroix (2g), Daniel Koger (1g, 1a), defenseman Zach Tarkir (2a) and Kroll (2a) each had two points. The regular season concluded Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum with the Stingrays rolling over the Road Warriors 5-2. Forwards Nielsson Arcibal and Shea Walters scored their first professional goals, defenseman Damon Kipp added his first professional point and Koger buried the game-winning goal early in the third period.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays finished the 2011-12 regular season fourth in the South Division with 81 points and seventh overall in the Eastern Conference.

Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien tied for third in the ECHL with a plus-minus rating of +21.

Goaltender Philipp Grubauer ranked third with a 2.22 goals-against average.

Defensemen Zach Tarkir tied for 14th among ECHL defenseman with 34 points (10g, 24a) and tied for first among blueliners with five game-winning goals.

Defenseman Johann Kroll tied for 15th among ECHL defensemen with 33 points (8g, 25a) and tied for fourth among D-men with a plus-minus rating of +19.

Defenseman Derek Keller tied for second among ECHL defensemen with two shorthanded assists.

Defenseman Dustin Stevenson is the only member of the Stingrays to play in all 72 regular-season games. O'Brien finished second with 71 games played.
