Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs on the road on Tuesday night as they battle the South Carolina Stingrays (31-28-4-3) at the North Charleston Coliseum. After going 1-2-0-0 against the Florida Everblades last week, the Gladiators clinched first place in the South Division and are second in the Eastern Conference with 93 points (41-20-7-4) on the regular season. The Elmira Jackals (45-22-2-3) finished just two points ahead of the Gladiators in the East with 95 points.
South Carolina Stingrays Preview:
The Gladiators open the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs against the South Carolina Stingrays. The Stingrays are fourth in the South Division with 81 points on the season. Gwinnett posted a 6-6-2-1 record against South Carolina during the 2011-12 regular season. In their last tilt, the Gladiators posted a 2-1 victory over the Rays on March 3rd. Pierre-Luc O'Brien is tops for South Carolina with 52 points (24 goals, 28 assists) on the season. O'Brien has collected five goals and six assists against Gwinnett this season.

"ªThe Gwinnett Gladiators got 30 saves from goaltender Marc Cheverie in a 2-0 shutout win over the Florida Everblades on Wednesday night at the Germain Arena. Gwinnett clinched the South Division title with the victory over the Everblades. Cody Brookwell and Doug Jones scored for Gwinnett in the win.
Friday, March 30: Gwinnett Gladiators, 3, Florida Everblades, 5 - L
Gwinnett dropped a 5-3 decision to the Florida Everblades on Friday night at the Germain Arena. Matt Marquardt had a goal and two assists while Brayden Irwin collected two goals and an assist to lead the Everblades to the victory.
Saturday, March 31: Gwinnett Gladiators, 2, Florida Everblades, 5 - L
The Gladiators dropped a 5-2 decision to the Florida Everblades in the regular season finale for both clubs on Saturday night. Gwinnett got goals from Andy Brandt and Doug Jones in the losing effort. Florida was led in scoring by Brayden Irwin and David Rutherford who each collected a goal and an assist.
News & Notes:
Playoff Bound Gwinnett clinched the South Division Title in a 2-0 shutout victory over the Florida Everblades on March 28th. Gwinnett completed the 2011-12 season in second place in the ECHL's Eastern Conference, two points behind the Elmira Jackals for the top spot. The South Division Championship is the second Division Title captured by the Gladiators in team history. The first Division Crown came in 2005-06 when the Gladiators won the South Division Title.
Leading the Team: Gwinnett had a very balanced offense this season with no player amassing 50 or more points on the season. Nikita Kashirsky finished the year with 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) while Pat Galivan collected 48 points (25 goals, 23 assists) with Gwinnett. Entering this season, Adam Berti was Gwinnett's lowest single season leading scorer in team history, who earned 57 points in the 2009-10 season.
Blanked! The Gladiators netminder Marc Cheverie notched his first shutout of the season for Gwinnett in the 2-0 victory over the Florida Everblades on March 27th. With his shutout, Gwinnett collected their eighth shutout of the 2011-12 regular season. The Gladiators eight shutouts lead the ECHL in that category. The Ontario Reign are ranked second on the year with seven. Jeff Jakaitis has posted five shutouts this season for Gwinnett, while Ryan Zapolski chipped in a pair of shutouts for the Gladiators.
Finishing the Season: The Gladiators finished the 2011-12 season with 93 points. The Gladiators 93 points are tied for the second best in team history matching the total of 93 posted in the 2007-08 season. The Gladiators best regular season finish was in 107 points posted in the 2005-06 regular season.
Season High: Forward Pat Galivan collected his 25th goal of the season on March 30th in the 5-3 loss to the Florida Everblades. Galivan finished the season ranked first in goals with 25 on Gwinnett. His 25 goals are the most by a Gladiator since Tom Zanoski finished with 25 in the 2009-10 season.
