Elmira's Gazley Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Monday announced that Dustin Gazley of the Elmira Jackals has been named CCM Rookie of the Year and the recipient of the John A. Daley Memorial Trophy .

The award is presented annually to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the ECHL as voted by the coaches of the ECHL teams. The trophy was named in honor of John A. Daley in 1997. Daley, who passed away in 1996, was one of the founding fathers of the ECHL, serving as general manger and minority owner of the Johnstown Chiefs from the inception of the team in 1988 until 1994.

Chris Barton of Wheeling finished second, followed by Cincinnati's Mathew Sisca, Philipp Grubauer of South Carolina and Wheeling's Andrew Hotham .

The ECHL will announce the winner of the Coach of the Year and recipient of the John Brophy Award on Tuesday.

Gazley, who was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and the All-ECHL First Team last week, won the ECHL scoring title with 85 points (25g-60a) and led the league with 60 assists. He finished third among first-year players with 25 goals, and led rookies with 18 power-play assists and 23 power-play points, while finishing second with 231 shots on goal. Gazley is the second Jackal to capture Rookie of the Year honors in the last three seasons, joining Justin Donati who received the award in 2009-10.
