South Carolina Stingrays News Release


NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Stingrays dished out a dose of revenge on Saturday night, scoring eight goals to defeat the Greenville Swamp Rabbits 8-2 after falling 2-0 in the teams' first meeting of the weekend on Friday. Forward Derek DeBlois had a memorable return to the ice, scoring goals on his first two shots of the season just 16 seconds apart. DeBlois finished with four points (two goals, two assists) on the night. 11 different players recorded a point in the victory, which was the highest offensive output of the season for the Rays.

South Carolina is now the top defensive team in the ECHL, allowing just 2.57 goals per game. The Stingrays will travel to Norfolk this week for three games against the Admirals Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits were able to hold the South Carolina Stingrays off the scoreboard on Friday night, with goaltender Mackenzie Skapski making 28 saves in a 2-0 shutout performance at the North Charleston Coliseum. South Carolina goaltender Adam Carlson kept his team in the game the whole way, not allowing a goal until the third period. Carlson finished with 26 saves while allowing just one goal in the loss.

SATURDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 8, GREENVILLE SWAMP RABBITS 2 (North Charleston Coliseum - North Charleston, SC)

The South Carolina Stingrays got two-goal performances from Derek DeBlois, Dylan Margonari and Rob Flick on their way to an 8-2 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. DeBlois, who was returning from a lengthy injury, scored on his first two shots of the season during the first three minutes of the contest and finished with four points (two goals, two assists) on the night. Forwards Joe Devin and Steven McParland were also major contributors to the offense, each assisting on three goals. After being shut out by Greenville Friday night, South Carolina responded with their highest-scoring output of the season to date, scoring three in the first, two in the second and three more in the third period.

OFFENSIVE ERUPTION The Stingrays' eight goals against Greenville on Saturday night was the team's highest offensive output of the season. In total, 11 skaters registered a point for the Rays in the victory. Forwards Derek DeBlois, Dylan Margonari and Rob Flick each scored twice, while forwards Joe Devin and Steven McParland had three assists apiece. Flick now leads the squad with eight goals on the season and all four of Margonari's markers have come at the expense of the Swamp Rabbits. South Carolina outshot Greenville 37-21 in the game.

QUICK START FOR DEBLOIS Derek DeBlois didn't waste any time making an impact in his return to the Stingrays on Saturday night. The forward, who had been out of the lineup with an injury since the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs, scored on his first two shots of the season Saturday night in the 8-2 win over Greenville. The goals came on the same shift, just 16 seconds apart. The Warwick, R.I. native finished the night with four points after he later assisted on goals by Kelly Zajac and Rob Flick.

ZAJAC LEADING THE WAY Stingrays' forward Kelly Zajac is leading the team in scoring through 21 games with five goals and 15 assists. Already coming off a big weekend, Zajac continued his offensive prowess Saturday night with linemates Joe Devin and Derek DeBlois. The Winnipeg, Man. native scored his fifth goal of the season and assisted on both of DeBlois' tallies while posting a +2 rating in the 8-2 win.

CARLSON SHINING IN NET Goaltender Adam Carlson is on a run of three straight outstanding performances in between the pipes. In his last three appearances, Carlson has allowed just two total goals and has dropped his goals against average down to 2.02, which is second in the ECHL. His save percentage is also among the league leaders (5th) at .925.
