South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have announced that a total number of 6,348 teddy bears were donated to the Salvation Army during the team's annual Teddy Bear Toss game which took place at the North Charleston Coliseum this past Friday.
All donations have been given to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program, giving children in need stuffed animals for the holidays. The total number more than doubled the 3,077 bears that were donated during the 2015 promotion.
The bears had to wait to be unleashed until after the game, as the Stingrays were shut out by Greenville in the contest.
A video of the fur flying can be viewed here.
"It was unfortunate that we weren't able to score during regulation," said Stingrays President Rob Concannon with a smile. "But it was great to see the response from the fans and the amount of Teddy Bears that we were able to collect this year. Looking at how some of the other teams in our league and in Hershey have success with doing this, hopefully this is something that we can continue to grow and build on for years to come."
South Carolina now hits the road for three games in Norfolk with the Admirals, starting Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Dec. 20 to once again face Greenville.
Single-game tickets for the 2016-17 season are on sale now at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office and ticketmaster.com.
Ticket packages and Groups of 10 or more are on sale now featuring discounted pricing and great benefits. The club's new 5 Game Plan features tickets to all the biggest games plus added benefits!
