Walleye Notes

Taking three on the week: Toledo picked up three wins over four games this past week. The first came in front of yet another sellout crowd Tuesday at the Huntington Center when Tyson Spink scored 2:50 into overtime for a 5-4 win. Friday night in Alaska, a 10-round shootout was needed to finish off the game and Jacob Macdonald scored to pick up the win for the Walleye. Six goals were not enough Saturday night as the Aces outscored Toledo 8-6 to snap the Walleye nine game winning streak. After trailing 4-1 in the second period, the Walleye scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-4 win away from Alaska.

A new team record achieved: With back to back wins to start the week, Toledo set a new Walleye record with nine consecutive victories breaking the old streak of eight straight set in December of 2009. The record stopped on Saturday when Toledo was beaten by the Alaska Aces 8-6.

Through 22 games: This Walleye team has the most wins (18) of any team in Toledo ECHL history through 22 contests. The only other team close is the 1995-96 Toledo Storm team that had a record of 17-3-2 which means the two teams have identical 36 points collected.

New player records achieved: Forwards Evan Rankin and Shane Berschbach each reached milestones over the past week. Rankin surpassed Kyle Rogers (177) for the most career points by a Walleye player with his goal in Sunday's game that has pushed his total to 178 points. Shane Berschbach followed suit in Sunday's contest by picking up his 109th career assist which ranks him as the new career leader for helpers passing Rogers 108.

Morning sellout: For the sixth time in nine home games this year the Walleye have seen a standing room only crowd as 7,500 (mostly students) entered the Huntington Center for the Tuesday morning game. The sixth sellout of the season improved Toledo's average attendance to 7,052 per game which is the second most in the ECHL.

Let's get Grizzly: The long road trip for the Walleye continues with three straight games this week in Utah against the Grizzlies. Toledo and Utah have played three prior games to these with the Walleye holding an all-time record of 2-1-0.

Walleye Player of the Week:

Jacob MacDonald (2 goals - 5 assists 7 points)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week:

Jake Paterson (3-0-0, 3.25 GAA, .875 save %)
