
Fuel Trade for Forward Alex Guptill Amid Roster Moves

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Monday that they have acquired forward Alex Guptill from the Allen Americans in exchange for defenseman Randy Cure and the playing rights to forward Alex Lavoie. In a separate move, the Fuel placed forwards Marek Tvrdon and Anthony Beauregard on team suspension effective immediately. Tvrdon leaves the team to return to Europe, while Beauregard has opted to pursue his education.
Guptill, 24, has collected four goals and four assists over 18 games this season split between the Americans and the Manchester Monarchs. In 56 career ECHL games with Allen, Manchester and the Evansville IceMen the third-year professional from Burlington, Ontario has tallied 18 goals and 13 assists.
A third-round selection of the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (No. 77 overall), Guptill has also recorded 29 points (12g, 17a) in 89 career AHL contests with the Rochester Americans, Binghamton Senators and Texas Stars. In 2014-15, the product of the University of Michigan appeared in 61 games during his rookie season with the Senators, notching a career-high 18 points (9g, 9a).
Cure, 26, picked up three assists in 18 games on the Fuel blue line this season. The defenseman from Bloomington, Minn. has 12 points (2g, 10a) over 86 career ECHL games spent with five different teams.
Lavoie, 24, led the Fuel with 54 points (16g, 38a) over 71 games played in 2015-16. The fourth-year forward has played 26 games with BIK Karlskoga in the Swedish second division. The Anjou, Quebec native has 111 total points (37g, 74a) in 138 total ECHL contests with the Fuel and the Florida Everblades.
Tvrdon, 23, recorded 12 (7g, 5a) points in 21 games this season, good for third-most on the Fuel roster. In 90 career ECHL games with the Fuel and Toledo Walleye, the native of Nitra, Slovakia has recorded 70 points (30g, 40a).
Beauregard, 21, also appeared in 21 games for Indy, leading all team rookies with five goals and five assists at the time of his departure. Prior to his professional career, the native of Saint-Damase, Quebec spent three seasons with the Val-d'Or Foreurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, compiling 223 total points (69g, 154a) in 207 games.
The Fuel will retain the ECHL playing rights to both Tvrdon and Beauregard. Indy returns to action this week with a pair of visits to U.S. Bank Arena against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Thursday and Friday, before hosting the Quad City Mallards Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
