South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the team signed forward Rob Concannon to a contract effective immediately. Concannon played last season with the Greenville Grrrowl. He was signed as a free agent.

Concannon, age 31, joined the team in time for its game with the Greenville Grrrowl at the Bilo Center tonight. He spent 23 games last season with the Grrrowl before retiring from hockey. Concannon is the second player to join the Rays in the last three days. Rod Taylor inked with the Stingrays on Monday.

Concannon last played for the Stingrays in the 1999-00 season. In that season he played 59 games scored 23 goals, added 20 assists and spent 202 minutes in the penalty box.

"We are very excited to have Robby coming back to our team," said Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "We are very banged up right now and need help. Robby will be more than just a body, he can kill penalties, he plays hard at both ends and he can score."

Concannon, a native of Dorchester, Massachusetts, is fourth on the all-time Stingrays point list with 231 points on 111 goals, 120 assist and 231 points. He stands 6'-0" and weighs 190lbs. Concannon is an ECHL veteran with well over 300 professional games. The Stingrays made room on their roster by placing Marty Clapton in the injured list.

Clapton will be back in the lineup for the Stingrays next week. He was place on the seven day injured list this morning due to a knee injury.

The Stingrays take on the Greenville Grrrowl tonight at the Bilo Center in Greenville. Face-off is set for 7:05. The Rays are coming off a 3-2 victory over the Lynx yesterday in Augusta. South Carolina will play in Greensboro on Friday night before hosting Greenville on Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Dave Seitz will play tonight for the Stingrays. The center has served a two game ECHL suspension for an incident in Reading. Robin Gomez, Brent Henley and Ryan Brindley will all miss tonight's game
