Generals Defensemen with Jackson
November 27, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals have made their first trade of the year, dealing defenseman Andrei Lupandin to the Jackson Bandits in exchange for defenseman Kevin Grimes. The Generals also received future considerations as part of the deal, which will be received at season's end. Grimes is expected to be in uniform for the Generals tomorrow night at 7:00 when they host the Columbus Cottonmouths.
Grimes, 23, is a tough, stay-at-home style defenseman. Standing 6'3", 215 pounds, Grimes has played in 20 games for the Bandits this season, scoring one goal and adding five assists for six points. Grimes has already accumulated 64 penalty minutes this season as well, which now makes him the Generals' team leader in that category. Grimes' six points this season is an offensive explosion for him, as he scored a total of 14 points (3g, 11a) in his first 166 games as a pro. Now at 186 career games, Grimes has amassed 557 career penalty minutes. He was also a first round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1997 NHL Draft.
"We needed to have more of a presence on the blue line, and Kevin Grimes fits that role to a tee," says Generals head coach Rick Adduono (ah-DOO-no). "He's big, he plays physical, but most important, he's smart with the puck in his own end. He'll make our defense much more balanced."
After being the lone Generals representative at last season's All-Star game, Lupandin had struggled this year with Greensboro, notching only one assist in 14 games.
The Generals game Thursday night is a "Thirsty Thursday", sponsored by R. H. Barringer, with all Anheuser-Busch drafts selling for just one dollar. On Friday at 7:30, the Generals host the South Carolina Stingrays, with Adduono facing the team he coached for the last six seasons for the first time. Ticket prices range from $10.00 - $17.00, with tickets as low as $8.00 for students and seniors. Generals Flex Plans for six, twelve, and 18 games are also available for as little as $50.00.
