Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho – Chris Marinucci enjoyed a four-point night and Scott Swanson added a goal and two assists as the Idaho Steelheads held off the Anchorage Aces 5-2 Wednesday night in front of 4,056 at the Bank of America Centre.

Anchorage surrendered the game's first goal for the 14th time in its 17 games when Marinucci banged a rebound home midway through the first period (10:50). The Steelheads again capitalized on a loose rebound early in the second period, as rookie Michal Pinc beat Aces' goaltender Christian Soucy at 5:47.

Trailing 2-0 entering the final frame, Anchorage opened the game up and whittled the deficit in half at 3:05 courtesy of a power play tally by Kimbi Daniels, his third goal in as many games. Idaho came right back on a power play of its own, as Cory Morgan deflected home a shot by Swanson at 5:52 for a 3-1 edge. Only 24 seconds later, the Aces scored in almost identical fashion, as rookie Jiri Jakes redirected a Daniels' shot past Steelheads' netminder Jason Cugnet to trim the gap to 3-2. Idaho's top-ranked power play unit again proved its mettle, as Swanson scored with 6:45 left in regulation to increase the lead to 4-2. After Anchorage (4-12-1) had squandered a two-man advantage, Wes Dorey's goal with two minutes remaining accounted for the final margin.

Idaho, now unbeaten in its last six games and 13-4-2 overall, has outscored the Aces 30-12 in taking all six meetings between the two clubs this year. The series resumes Friday and Saturday night in Boise, where Anchorage has not won a regular season game since February 14, 2001, at 5:00 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
