North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), named forward Shawn Weller team captain for the 2012-13 season. Forward Mike Hamilton and defenseman Ryan Turek will serve as alternate captains.

Weller dressed in 291 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) over the past six seasons with the Binghamton Senators, Abbotsford Heat, Manitoba Moose, St. John's IceCaps and Texas Stars adding 44 goals and 43 assists for 87 points. The Glens Falls, New York, native saw ECHL action with the Bakersfield Condors and Elmira Jackals from 2007-2010 recording 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) in 56 games. Prior to turning pro, the third-round selection (77th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft attended Clarkson University for three seasons and won and ECAC championship in 2006-07.

Hamilton appeared in 25 games with the Stingrays last season earning seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points after competing in 33 contests with the Fife Flyers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) scoring 42 points (18 goals, 24 assists). In 2010-11, the Victoria, British Columbia, native skated in 32 games with Sterzing/Vipiteno in Italy grabbing 54 points (27 goals, 27 assists) and helping them to a league championship. A sixth-round selection (175th overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Hamilton saw ECHL action with the Gwinnett Gladiators, Las Vegas Wranglers and Victoria Salmon Kings from 2007-2010 totaling 91 points (35g, 56a) in 159 games. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound forward also spent time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Chicago Wolves and Houston Aeros (4 goals, 6 assists in 47 games).

Turek played in 42 games with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL last season scoring seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points. His rights were acquired by the Stingrays from the Grizzlies on August 31, 2012. In addition to Utah, the Southfield, Michigan, native saw ECHL action with the Alaska Aces and Victoria Salmon Kings over three and a half seasons totaling 73 points (24 goals, 49 assists) in 190 contests and was selected to the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic in Bakersfield, California. Prior to turning pro, he dressed for three years at Michigan State University adding nine assists in 80 games and was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round (94th overall) of the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
