Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - October 11, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have received defenseman Ben Blood and goaltender Marc Cheverie from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Blood, 23, has been reassigned to the Jackals by the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators from Binghamton to Elmira. He is a rookie out of the University of North Dakota who was a fourth round draft pick (#120 overall) of the Senators in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Blood went out on a high note with the Fighting Sioux last year as he posted career bests in points (21) and assists (18) while leading North Dakota defensemen in scoring. He also won the Coach's Unsung Hero Award before moving on to dress in four games with the Senators on an Amateur Tryout. Blood, 6-3, 230-pounds, finished his collegiate career with 48 points (10G, 38A) and 229 penalty minutes in 160 games.
Cheverie, 25, has been loaned to the Jackals by the Binghamton Senators. Originally a seventh round draft pick (#193 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2006 Entry Draft he is set to embark on his third season of professional hockey. His rookie season was split between the Cincinnati Cyclones and the AHL's Rochester Americans and he compiled a combined 15-16-6 record. Last year, after a trade to the Phoenix Coyotes, Cheverie spent time with the Gwinnett Gladiators and the Portland Pirates and went 14-7-8 between the clubs. This offseason Cheverie, 6-2, 185-pounds, inked a deal with Binghamton after becoming a free agent. Prior to turning pro he went 48-18-8 over three seasons at the University of Denver.
