South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Reading, PA - The South Carolina Stingrays bounced back from last night's loss with a solid effort against the Reading Royals, leading to a 4-1 at the Sovereign Center.

"We really needed to play well in tonight's game after yesterday," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I think [Jonathan] Boutin really stepped up, and our defense played very well in tonight's win."

The Rays came out strong in the first period, taking the early lead from the Royals. At 7:29, while on their first power play of the night, the Rays hit pay dirt, with Nate Kiser getting his seventh goal of the year. The goal was assisted by Maxime Lacroix and Keith Johnson and gave the Rays the 1-0 lead. The would double that lead less than two minutes later on Trent Campbell's 11th goal of the year. The goal came at 9:15 and was assisted by former Reading Royal Jeff Corey to make it a 2-0 game after one period of play.

The second period looked like it would finish with the score remaining 2-0. But in the final minute of play, with the Rays on their sixth power play of the night, Josh Godfrey would make it a three goal game. Godfrey's third goal of the year came at the 19:40 mark and was assisted by Campbell and Pierre-Luc O'Brien. The Royals, however, continued to battle, and just :16 seconds later, Scott Estey got his first goal of the season to make it a 3-1 score after two periods of play.

Much like the second period, the third period was scoreless for the majority of time. It wasn't until Travis Morin fired in an empty net goal 18:08, that either team made the score sheet. For Morin, it was his 17th goal of the year, with the assists going to Bryson Busniuk and Lacroix. It was Morin's second empty net goal of the trip. The goal made the score 4-1, the eventual final.

The winning goaltender was Jonathan Boutin who stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Michael Ouzas who stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced. The Rays went 2-7 on the power play while killing off all seven short handed situations they faced.

The Rays will be back in action Tuesday night as they return home to the comfy confines of the North Charleston Coliseum to take on the surging Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 P.M. You can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 910 the TEAM starting with the Benitos Pre-game show beginning at 6:50.
