Derlago's hat trick paces 5-2 Condors victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - LW Mark Derlago had a hat trick as he and his linemates, C Dave Bonk and RW Chad Painchaud, combined for 14 points to carry the Bakersfield Condors to a 5-2 victory against the Victoria Salmon Kings before 4,155 fans at Rabobank Arena Sunday afternoon.

Victoria (31-19-6, 68pts) struck first for the second consecutive game, opening the scoring at 15:19 of the first period with a goal from RW Wes Goldie. Bakersfield finished the frame with a flurry of shots, but G Todd Ford kept the Salmon Kings in the lead with 14 saves in the period.

The Condors (22-27-7, 51pts) responded with a pair of goals in the second stanza to take a 2-1 lead. Painchaud tied the game with his 19th goal of the season, firing a one-timer past Ford at 5:34. Derlago followed suit with his first of the night at 16:38, when he found twine with a wrister from the right wing circle to give Bakersfield the lead after 40 minutes.

A power play goal for Victoria early in the third tied it at two, but Derlago and company quickly regained the lead. Painchaud notched his second of the game at 9:19, burying a one-timer for his 20th of the season. Derlago matched it with his 20th of the year at 13:38, and then he turned the trick with his third of the night at 17:30 to account for the 5-2 final score and bring the headwear down onto the ice. Derlago (3g-2a), Painchaud (2g-3a) and C Dave Bonk (0g-4a) combined for 14 points and 20 shots in the game. G Dave McKee made 28 saves for his seventh win of the season.
