Royals Knock Off Nailers, 5-2

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (17-32-4= 38; 7th North Division) of the ECHL scored first and never trailed in a 5-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers in front of 6812 at the Sovereign Center in Pink In the Rink Night at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. In a night dedicated to raise funds for the research efforts to find a cure for breast cancer, the Royals got goals at either end of the first period from Mac Faulkner (2:29) and Chris Stevens (18:50) and what proved to be the third game winner of the season from Kirk MacDonald (who added an empty netter with fifty-three seconds left in the third) in the second to win for the third time in seven tries against the Wheeling Naielrs (3-4-0) this year. Michael Ouzas (16-14-1; 29/31) made several spectacular stops-particularly at critical moments in the third-to pick up his second win of the year over Wheeling (2-1-0); while Curtis Darling (loss; 16-16-5; 27/31; eng) suffered his third loss of the year to Reading. The Royals' power play was held off the board in eight tries with the man advantage; while the Nailers' second goal was scored while they were on the power play (1-4).

The Royals take on the South Carolina Stingrays tomorrow (Sunday, February 22 @ 5:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center.
