March 28, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: Peter Boyd, Eric Alexander, and Robby Dee combined for nine points in a South Carolina 5-1 victory over the Road Warriors.
Greenville began the first period with a good sustained attack which gave way to a Jason Wilson five minute major for charging. The momentum shifted in favor of South Carolina as the Stingrays created a few chances but could not grab the lead. It took 17:44 for a goal to be scored. Boyd stepped into the zone untouched to beat Connor Knapp over his blocker for his 21st of the year.
Boyd scored again to begin the second period. The goal came from a Dee pass that deflected off Boyd's skate and slid into the net for a 2-0 Stingrays lead. Sebastien Piche responded for the Road Warriors with a slap shot goal to bring the score to a 2-1 lead for South Carolina. In his first game since December 23rd, Piche scored his first goal of the year. Dee would finish off the scoring in the period with a backdoor goal for his 17th of the year.
Chris Langkow scored on the man advantage to put South Carolina on top 4-1 at the 13:16 marker in the third. A pass from the point deflected off Langkow's skate and snuck under Knapp's blocker for his 20th of the year. Andrew Cherniwchan scored the final goal on a highlight reel play where he fended off two defensemen and beat Knapp along the crease low glove side. Cherniwchan's 10th goal of the year finalized the 5-1 Stingray's victory. Jeff Jakitis improved to a 8-5-4 record with 26 saves. Knapp made 22 saves in the loss.
