Stingers Lose to Rochester

Rochester, Minn. - The Stingers were swept in the series finale leading up to the All-Star break 10-3. The Stingers will not have another game until Thursday when they play the Honkers at home.

There was no scoring in the first inning of the game. Chris Peres (La Verne) started on the mound for the Stingers. Peres' outing was cut short as the Honkers were hot at the plate. He pitched 2.2 innings giving up six runs off six hits. Peres issued four walks and struck out three Honkers.

The Stingers jumped out to an early lead in the second. Brandon Bohning (Northridge) was able to score on a wild pitch during a Noah Haupt (New Mexico State) at-bat. Two batters later, Chase Stanke (Minnesota) advanced home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Kaden Fowler (Georgia). 2-0 Stingers. In the third inning, Branden Boissiere (Arizona) advanced home on a sacrifice fly to right from Bohning. 3-0 Stingers. The game was all Rochester after the second inning.

The Honkers hitting came alive in the third. Six runs scored off of six hits against Willmar. 6-3 Honkers. Luke DeGrammont (Concordia-St. Paul) was first in relief for the Stingers. He got the Stingers out of the jam in the third and pitched the next two innings. The Honkers added to their lead in the fourth. They scored three runs off two hits. 9-3 Honkers

Masen Palmier (Missouri Baptist) pitched the last three innings of the game. He was solid in his outing giving up one run, in the eighth, off two hits. The Stingers were held scoreless in the ninth with a double play from the Honkers to end the game. The final score was 10-3 Rochester.

The Stingers head into the All-Star break with four players headed to Waterloo, Iowa for the All-Star game. Justin King, Daniel Walsh, Garret Rukes, and Polo Portela will all represent Willmar at the game. The Stingers will return on Thursday to face the Honker at Bill Taunton Stadium. First pitch 7:05pm CT!
