Bismarck Larks News Release
The Bismarck Larks lost both games of the Saturday, July 13th doubleheader by scores of 19-8 and 6-3. Game one of the double header was presented by American Bank Center. Game two was presented by Tri-Energy Cenex. If you attended the game and want to claim your free donut, bring your ticket down to a Bearscat Bakehouse location in the Bismarck-Mandan area on Monday. There was a combined eight home runs over the course of the doubleheader including Jacob Rogers first of the season.
What's Next: The Larks and Rox will battle it out for the 3rd time in 2 days on Sunday, July 14th for the final game before the All Star break. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark, home of Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field.
How It Happened (Game 1): The Rox got on the board first with four two-out runs to start the game. Landon Stephens hit his first home run of the day, it was a two-run shot to cap off the 4-run first.
The Larks got 3 runs consecutively in the 3rd inning on RBI from the trio of AJ DiFillipo, Alex Peterson and Clay Woeste.
Two more runs came across for the Rox in the top of the 5th before the Larks scored two in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of a two-RBI single from Stephen Baughan to make the score 6-4.
The Rox scored five runs in the top of the 6th inning courtesy of two-RBI single from Jordan Barth and a 3-run home run from Garrett Delano extended the lead for the Rox to 11-5.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Larks scored one on an RBI groundout from David Mendham to make the score 11-6.
The Rox tacked on four more runs in the 7th after a series of manufactured runs. The most notable was a two-run double by Landon Stephens to put the game out of reach at 15-6.
The Larks fought back in the eighth when two runs crossed the plate on a Matt Warkentin homerun deep to left field decreasing the deficit by two runs making the game 15-8 and providing the faithful Larks fans with their beloved free donuts.
The Rox added four more in the ninth to make the game 19-8. Landon Stephens continued his great day at the plate with another two-run home run.
The Larks came in up short in the bottom half of the inning ended the game at 19-8.
A brightspot of the loss was Fernando Diaz Jr.'s excellent outing. He went 1.2 innings with no earned runs.
How It Happened (Game 2): The Larks scored first in the game on a two-out single from Jacob Rogers which allowed Damon Lux to score from second to make it 1-0.
Landon Stephens then homered to left field for the 3rd time on the day to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 2nd inning. Then in the 3rd inning, Gus Steiger hit a solo shot to take a 2-1 lead for the Rox.
The Larks answered back in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Jacob Rogers hit his first home run of the season to left field. His two-run shot allowed the Larks to take back the lead by a score of 3-2.
The Rox tied it in the 5th inning on an RBI groundout from Garrett Delano to make the score 3-3.
The Rox then scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning to take the lead for good. A two-out bloop single from Brett Bonar drove in two crucial runs for the Rox in the top of the 9th. Another run came around to score on an error later in the inning to complete the score of 6-3.
