Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - April 8, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that defenseman Steven Shamanski has been named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie Team is determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.
Shamanski set a Jackals' single-season record for a defenseman with 14 goals this season.
Shamanski, 25, ranks third among all ECHL blue liners and leads all rookie defensemen with 14 goals. The Carberry, Manitoba native is also tied for second among first-year blue liners with 38 points. In addition, Shamanski ranks fourth among all rookies with 16 power-play points. The 6-foot 200-pound defenseman also represented the Jackals in this year's ECHL All-Star Game. The rookie blue liner leads all Jackals' defensemen with 14 goals and 38 points in 68 games played. Shamanski's 14 goals set a new single-season record for a Jackals' blueliner. He is currently with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. Shamanski has also appeared in AHL games this season with the Rochester Americans and Springfield Falcons.
