
ECHL Announces 2014-15 All-Rookie Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Wednesday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2014-15 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.
A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.
2014-15 ECHL All-Rookie Team
G - Roman Will, Fort Wayne Komets (27 gp, 15-8-4, 2.45 GAA, .919 save pct.)
D - Justin Baker, Allen Americans (67 gp, 9g, 28a, 37 pts., +19)
D - Steven Shamanski, Elmira Jackals (68 gp, 14g, 24a, 38 pts., -1)
F - Derek Army, Wheeling Nailers (68 gp, 27g, 34a, 61 pts., +5)
F - Tyler Barnes, Toledo Walleye (68 gp, 29g, 40a, 69 pts., +16)
F - Jason Bast, Idaho Steelheads (52 gp, 30g, 22a, 52 pts., +23)
Since the ECHL began naming the All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, 16 players selected have gone on to play in the National Hockey League: Richard Bachman (2009-10), David Desharnais (2007-08), Cedrick Desjardins (2006-07), Kevin Doell (2003-04), Brian Fahey (2003-04), Vern Fiddler (2002-03), Simon Gamache (2001-02), Mike Glumac (2002-03), Philipp Grubauer (2011-12), Adam Hauser (2002-03), Jason Jaffray (2002-03), Anton Khudobin (2007-08), Zenon Konopka (2002-03), Kael Mouillierat (2010-11), Ben Street (2010-11) and Joey Tenute (2004-05).
The ECHL will announce its First-Team All-ECHL and Second-Team All-ECHL teams on Thursday.
Roman Will of the Fort Wayne Komets is 15-8-4 in 27 appearances this season, and he has gone 11-3-2 in his last 16 decisions. Under contract to the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League, Will ranks seventh in the league, and is first among rookies, with a 2.45 goals-against average and his .919 save percentage is fourth in the league.
Justin Baker of the Allen Americans is fourth among rookie defensemen with 37 points this season, while ranking second among all defensemen with a 14.1 percent shooting percentage. His +19 rating is tied for fourth among all ECHL rookies.
Steven Shamanski of the Elmira Jackals is third among all ECHL defensemen with 14 goals and is tied for second among first-year blue liners with 38 points. His 16 power-play points (6g-10a) are fourth among all rookies.
Derek Army leads Wheeling with 27 goals, which also ranks fourth among rookies. He leads first-year players with 245 shots on goal, is second with 61 points and is tied for fourth with four game-winning goals.
Tyler Barnes of the Toledo Walleye, under an American Hockey League contract with Grand Rapids, is first among rookies with 69 points, second with 40 assists and third with 29 goals. The ECHL Rookie of the Month for December, he also leads rookies with 10 power-play goals and is tied for first with 17 power-play points.
Jason Bast of the Idaho Steelheads is tied for first among rookies with 30 goals, second in plus-minus at +23 and eighth with 52 points. He was named ECHL Rookie of the Month in both October and January, becoming just the sixth player to win multiple Rookie of the Month honors since the award began in 1997-98.
