April 8, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

READING, PA- It took 12 games for a team to win a road game in the season series between the Wheeling Nailers and Reading Royals, and on Wednesday night, it was Wheeling who performed the honors. Franky Palazzese made 46 saves, and Josh Archibald broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period, as the Nailers clinched their first season series win against Reading since 2006-07, claiming a 2-1 victory at Santander Arena.

As has been the case of most of the games in the season series, shots and chances were aplenty early, but when the buzzer sounded to conclude the opening period, it was the Nailers who found themselves in the lead. Cody Wydo rushed the puck into the offensive zone, leading to a battle behind the net. Wheeling poked it out, with Sahir Gill centering a pass to Derek Army in the slot. The ECHL All-Rookie Team member took advantage of the opportunity, lifting a shot over Connor Knapp's glove.

Reading drew even at the 6:40 mark of the middle frame, doing so while playing on the man advantage. Michael Caruso slipped a pass across the blueline for a simple wrist shot from Brett Flemming. Franky Palazzese made the save, but Olivier Labelle pounced on the rebound for his 30th goal of the season. Before time could expire in the second period, the Nailers regained their lead. Jean-Sebastien Dea helped spread out the defense for David Makowski, who stepped up with a shot from the top of the right circle. Knapp made the save, kicking out the rebound to Josh Archibald, who swatted home his seventh tally in nine games with the club.

From that point, the task became direct for the Nailers - shut the door on the Royals. With Palazzese's help, the visitors were successful, holding on for the 2-1 triumph.

Franky Palazzese set a career-high with 46 saves in the win for Wheeling, defeating Connor Knapp who stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Nailers will play their final home game of the regular season on Friday night at 7:35 against Elmira.
