Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Boise, ID - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (26-21-6, 58 points) were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads (29-16-3, 61 points) 3-1 in front of 5,222 fans on Friday night at QWest Arena. The Wranglers continued their winless skid, falling for the fifth straight game (0-3-2). Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher suffered the loss, stopping 35 Steelheads shots. Idaho goalie Matt Clime picked up the win with 13 saves. The Steelheads outshot Las Vegas 38-14. The 14 shots tied a Wranglers team record for the fewest in one game. Steelheads forwards Matt McKnight, Ryan MacGregor and Mark Bomersback each scored in the Idaho win. Wranglers forward Hugo Carpentier scored the team's lone goal. Las Vegas will play the final game of a three-game set in Idaho on Saturday at 6:10 PM (PST).
Idaho scored the game's opening goal, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:27 into the contest. Former Wrangler, Matt McKnight scored his second goal in as many games against his former team. McKnight scored his eighth goal of the season, beating Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher for the Steelheads lead. Las Vegas would answer back at 14:13, tying the game 1-1. Left wing Kelly Czuy sent a cross-ice pass to Hugo Carpentier, who snapped a one-timer past Idaho goalie Matt Clime. Center Chris Ferraro picked up his 22nd assist of the season on Carpentier's sixth goal of the year. The Wranglers were outshot 19-3 in the first period. It marked the second time in the last 12 days that Las Vegas was held to only three shots in one period. Wranglers' goalie Glenn Fisher stopped 18 of the first 19 Idaho shots, keeping the Wranglers tied after one period of play.
In the second period, Idaho's Mark Bomersback scored for the sixth straight game, giving the Steelheads a 2-1 lead. Bomersback's shot from the high slot deflected off a Wranglers defender and off Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher. The power-play goal was Bomersback's 17th tally of the season and came just 3:23 into the middle frame. Idaho Captain Darrell Hay tossed the puck to the net on the power play late in the second period. The puck deflected off Wranglers goalie Glenn Fisher and landed in front of Steelheads forward Ryan MacGregor, who scored his 18th goal of the season at 16:35. The rebound tally was also assisted by former Wrangler Garett Bembridge and concluded the scoring at 3-1.
The Wranglers continue on a ten-game road trip with one more game in Idaho, this Saturday at 6:10 PM (PST). Las Vegas will make stops in Phoenix, Stockton, Ontario, Bakersfield and Alaska before hosting the Idaho Steelheads on March 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
