Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs were defeated by the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, a 6-3 loss that ended the Chiefs' four-game winning streak overall and six-game home winning streak.

Johnstown's record now stands at (30-19-2) leaving them one point behind first place Cincinnati.

South Carolina jumped on the board early, beating Chiefs netminder Ian Keserich at 1:14. Ryan Card's first professional goal counted for the equalizer as he cashed in with a low slap shot off the glove of goaltender Jonathan Boutin at 10:17. Seconds later South Carolina stung back with a goal from Pierre-Luc O'Brien. That goal was answered by the Chiefs power play at 12:59. The goal came from the quick stick of Trevor Hendrikx as he was set up by Pohl's pass into the slot. It was his fifth of the season and tied the game with 7:01 left in the first. Finally, with 45 seconds remaining in the period, the Chiefs cash in their second power play goal when Andrew Sarauer sent his team to the locker room with the lead as he buried a rebound set up by Jarrett Konkle and Ryan Del Monte. The goal extended his point streak to five games. In the second, South Carolina again jumped on the board early with the equalizer coming from Michael Dubuc; knotting the score at 3-3. The Stingrays would later take the lead at 8:01 on a power-play goal from Nate Kiser.

Timely saves by Boutin, including robbing Pohl on a 2-on-1 rush set up by Todd Griffith, kept Johnstown in check and allowed Maxime Lacroix to pad the lead with an unassisted marker with 14:51 gone by in the third. Johnstown was awarded a power play with 1:53 left in regulation and pulled Keserich for the extra attacker to take a 6-on-4 manpower advantage. Boutin continued to hold the fort, though, and Travis Morin ended up sliding home an empty-net shorthanded goal to set the final.

Keserich made 29 saves in taking the loss while the Chiefs were 2-for-5 on the power play.
