CHARLOTTE, N.C. -The Charlotte Checkers are proud to announce that on Saturday, February 21st at Time Warner Cable Arena, the team will honor Mona Hedrick of East Meckleburg High School as the Arts and Science Council (ASC) Teacher of the Year.

The ASC along with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools "Hit the Ice" with the Checkers on Saturday night to provide recognition for service to the community. Mona Hendrick was selected as the Teacher of the Year and will be on-hand to receive recognition from the team and the thousands in attendance. As part of the festivities, CMS students in grades K-8 designed creative hockey jerseys which will be on display at tomorrow night's home game for fans to view. One of the student drawings will be selected and made into a real jersey for Checkers players during the 2009-10 season and worn on CMS day.

The evening will help raise dollars to support Charlotte-Mecklenburg's cultural community through the Arts & Science Council's (ASC) 2009 Annual Fund Drive. Contributions through ASC support cultural organizations and education, artists and neighborhood projects right here in the community. Last year nearly 4 million experiences in the cultural community were supported by ASC, and almost half of those were for children.
