Steelheads Score Late to Beat the Battalion
January 28, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Mississauga Steelheads claim another victory on the road, winning 3-2 against the Battalion.
First Period
After coming off of an outstanding comeback victory against the Petes, the Blue and White searched for another win on the road in North Bay. The Steelheads applied the pressure in the Battalion's zone early into the first frame getting multiple shots on North Bay's netminder Joe Vrbetic. The continuous pressure paid off at the 13:52 mark when Owen Beck scored his 15th goal of the season as he fired the puck over the right pad of Vrbetic. Zander Veccia and Zakary Lavoie received the assists.
On the other side of the ice, Steelheads' netminder Roman Basran made some crucial saves allowing the Trout to exit the first with a 1-0 lead.
Shots on Goal - 7 NB/ 16 MISS
Second Period
Mississauga increased their tempo heading into the second. Within three minutes of the middle frame, Steelheads' defenceman Charlie Callaghan took a sniper shot from the Battalion's blue line sending it over Vrbetic, giving him his 5th goal of the season and the Trout a 2-0 lead. Evan Brand and Aidan Prueter were credited with the assists.
Moments later, the Battalion answered back at the 6:03 mark when Dalyn Wakely snuck one past Basran and put North Bay on the board. However, the Trout continued to make key defensive plays, stopping the Battalion from closing the one-goal gap, departing the second frame with a 2-1 lead.
Shots on Goal - 8 NB/ 9 MISS
Third Period
Entering the final frame, Mississauga tried to preserve the tempo from the first 40 minutes of play. However, Battalion's Brandon Coe launched the puck in the back of the Steelheads' net, tying the game 2-2 30 seconds into the third.
Midway through the third period, it looked as though the Battalion had scored. However upon review, the puck had split in half as it hit the crossbar and neither halves crossed the line, keeping the score at two apiece.
The Steelheads challenged the Battalion's netminder towards the end of the third, leading to Kasper Larsen's first game-winning goal and his 2nd OHL goal at the 18:12 mark. James Hardie and Luca DelBelBelluz received the assists. The Steelheads win 3-2 against the North Bay Battalion.
Shots on Goal - 4 NB/16 MISS
Total Shots - 19 NB/ 41 MISS
