Rangers Fall to Attack in Weekend Opener

January 28, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers hosted the Owen Sound Attack to The Aud on Friday night, their first of two games this weekend.

Two minutes into the 1st period, Owen Sound opened the scoring, giving them an early 1-0 lead. Kitchener would have an opportunity on the powerplay but did not score. Just after, Jack Harper scored his first of the season and first as a Ranger to tie the game at 1-1. With six minutes remaining in the period, Navrin Mutter took a double minor for checking from behind. Owen Sound capitalized to regain the lead, making it 2-1. We looked to get even in the 2nd.

The Rangers were able to kill off an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, giving us some momentum. Matthew Sop walked out from the corner, snapping a shot by the Owen Sound netminder, tying the game at 2-2. Owen Sound took the lead again, on a two-man advantage, making it 3-2. They added another on the powerplay, extending their lead to 4-2. We hoped to make the comeback in the 3rd period.

Midway through the 3rd, the score remained 4-2 for Owen Sound, but we were pressing hard for a goal. Owen Sound added an empty-net late to make it 5-2. Despite a strong period, the Rangers were unable to mount the comeback.

Owen Sound took the contest by a final score of 5-2. We look to bounce back in Sarnia.

Our next game is Sunday, January 30th in Sarnia at 2:05 p.m.
