
Spitfires Defeat Guelph 3-2

The Spitfires extend the win streak to 2 and take care of Guelph at the Sleeman Centre 3-2 in a close defensive battle.
In the first period, the play was very slow with a lot of neutral zone play. The Spitfires were able to keep the Storm out of their end for most of the period and limited the shots to 2 through the first twenty minutes. The Spitfires got on the board with Wyatt Johnston's 22nd on the season unassisted on a sweet snipe in the slot. The Spitfires had 12 shots through the first period.
In the second period, the same defensive game was shown on both sides with only a few chances on each side. The Spitfires had 2 powerplays but failed to convert on them. With just under 5 minutes left the Spitfires Wyatt Johnston scored his 2nd of the night from Maggio to extend the Spitfires lead to 2-0. The Spitfires led in shots 28-10 after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, Guelph scored just 30 seconds into the period to make it a 2-1 game. Each team traded chances in the third both coming close. With just over 4 minutes to play Currie behind the net passed it in front to Christopoulos who scored his 6th on the season and gave the Spitfires a 3-1 lead. With just 26 seconds remaining and the net empty Guelph scored to make it 3-2 but the Spitfires were able to hunker down for the win.
Johnston had first star honours followed by linemate Maggio with 2nd star and Guelph's goalie Bennett had the games third star.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday February 3rd for a rematch with the Guelph Storm. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
