Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads welcomed the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds to the Hershey Centre Friday night. Coming off a 4-1 win over the Guelph Storm, the Steelheads hoped to carry that momentum into tonight's game. The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead, and although the Steelheads had a their sights set on a third period comeback, they fell just short as the Greyhounds added an empty net goal in the final minutes for a 5-3 final.

Boston Bruins prospect', Zachary Senyshyn would get things started early in the opening frame, giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the game. Hayden Verbeek and Colton White had the assists on Senyshyn's 32nd of the season. Boris Katchouk extended the Greyhounds lead 2-0 at 5:21 from Verbeek. The Steelheads would head into the first intermission down by two.

Mississauga cut the deficit at 8:10 of the middle frame as Jason Smith walked in and fired a shot top shelf past Brandon Halverson. The Steelheads were on the board but still trailed by two heading into the second intermission.

The Greyhounds would regain their three-goal lead at 8:28 of the third off a goal from Blake Speers. Senyshyn and Gabe Guertler assisted Speers' 15th of the season. Things picked up for the Steelheads in the final minutes of the frame as Owen Tippett pulled Mississauga within one. Less than a minute later, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda came flying down the wing and pulled a nifty backhand on Halverson to bring the Steelheads within one. Down 4-3 and looking for the equalizer, the Steelheads pulled Jack Flinn in favour of an extra attacker. Although the Steelheads had a number of good chances, outshooting the Soo 42-33, a turnover in the neutral zone resulted in an empty net goal for the Greyhounds as they sealed a 5-3 victory.

The Steelheads are back in action tomorrow evening as they head to Barrie to take on the central division leading Colts.
