December 17, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
Led by Roman Basran's outstanding 26-save performance, the Steelheads head to the holiday break with a 2-1 win over the North Bay Battalion.
First Period
The Steelheads were looking to go into the holiday break on a winning note as they faced off with the North Bay Battalion.
Neither team gave an inch in the first period as the Steelheads netminder, Roman Basran, and Battalion netminder, Joe Vrbetic, had a great goaltending duel in the opening frame. There were several chances by the Steelheads late in the period, including a hard shot by James Hardie, but they were denied by the Battalion netminder.
Basran made several key saves early in the period as the Battalion offence pushed the tempo in the opening minute.

Second Period
The Battalion drew first on the powerplay at the 4:29 mark, as Brandon Coe shot through traffic and went past Basran. After several great chances during the game, the Steelheads finally solved Vrbetic as Kai Schwindt scored on the rebound shot, which found the net at the 8:08 mark, tying the game 1-1. Zander Veccia and Luke Misa received the assists.
Following the Schwindt goal, the Battalion cranked up the pressure in their attacking zone, but Basran's excellent goaltending kept the Battalion from retaking the lead. The Steelheads feed off the momentum by taking the lead on the powerplay at the 13:22 mark as Charlie Callaghan rips a shot from a tough angle that goes the pads of Vrbetic. Owen Beck received the assist.

It was an evenly-fought battle in the third period, with defences and goaltending from both sides tightening up.
Basran came up huge with a solid third period, highlighted by a remarkable glove save, robbing North Bay's Owen Outwater. With 1:14 remaining, the Battalion pulled Vrbetic for an extra attacker, only for the Steelheads' defence to milk down the clock with great forechecking and timely shot blocking.
