Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers welcomed the Soo Greyhounds into The Aud for one final matchup before the Christmas break in the schedule.

Six minutes into the game, The Soo's Tye Kartye capitalized on a chance, making it 1-0. Later in the period, they scored again to extend their lead to 2-0. The Soo was given a late powerplay but the Rangers killed it off, with the help of Pavel Cajan. The Soo took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period but the Rangers looked to rebound.

Midway through the 2nd period, Roman Schmidt ripped a shot from the slot to get the Rangers on the board and cut the Soo's lead to 2-1. The Soo would immediately respond, making it 3-1. With six minutes remaining in the 2nd, Arber Xhekaj scored his 5th of the season, getting the Rangers within one goal. The Rangers were looking to carry their momentum into the 3rd period.

Both teams were given early powerplays, but either capitalized on their chances. The Rangers would pull Cajan with 2:36 minutes left in the third and the move would pay off. Reid Valade would score his 10th of the season and tie the game 3-3. Regulation would solve nothing for this game, so they headed into overtime.

With only 16 seconds left in overtime, The Soo would score and take the game.

The Rangers got a well-earned point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Soo Greyhounds.

Our next home game will be Tuesday, December 28, at 7 p.m. against the Windsor Spitfires.
