Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Bulldogs continued their home stand facing the Peterborough Petes on Friday night in the first Teddy Bear Toss game in 2 years at FirstOntario Centre, looking to head to Christmas Break with momentum.
The Bulldogs looked hungrier than ever tonight to not only win but to score the first goal of the game for the annual Teddy Toss. After a pressure packed open to the first period that saw the Bulldogs buzzing Tye Austin's goal, Cole Brown scored the first goal at 9:14 with a tip in thanks to the play started by the grind of George Diaco and wicked shot from Nathan Staios to let the bears loose and give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead. Gavin White followed, doubling the lead and ripped a shot from the point for his fourth of the season at 11:45 with Staios and Diaco again adding the assists. Avery Hayes extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-0 scoring a sweet goal at 15:54 from Logan Morrison and Ryan Humphrey to gain complete control of the first period, keeping the Bulldogs on the front foot heading to intermission.
Continuing the intensity of the stellar first period the Bulldogs remained in control and Mark Duarte made sure of that by scoring a top shelf rebound goal for his 9th of the season at 2:30 with the pass from Staios, his 4th point of the game, and Jonathan Melee.
The Bulldogs weren't finished yet, one minute later Morrison scored a sneaky backdoor goal from the cross-ice pass of Hayes to make the game 5-0 with Humphrey recording the secondary assist. Tucker Robertson crashed the Bulldogs parade to break Matteo Drobac's shutout with an unassisted goal at 5:14. Melee responded immediately for the Bulldogs scoring his 6th of the season at 5:42 from Duarte and Jorian Donovan. With 12 minutes left of the period Brown scored his second goal of the game and 5th of the season and Duarte and Humphrey picking up the helpers. Humphrey followed, adding to the lead walking around three of the Petes players with a nifty move off the left-wing boards to score his 9th of the season at 15:04 from White and Chandler Romeo. For his 16th of the season and 2nd of the game Hayes scored off a cross ice pass from Morrison at 18:11 to give the Bulldogs an 8-goal lead heading to the locker room after 40 minutes.
Starting the third the Bulldogs wasted no time taking control of the game again and Staios gave the Bulldogs their 10th just 45 seconds into the period with Lawson Sherk and Patrick Thomas picking up the assists. The Petes weren't finished and would look to battle back, Emmett Sproule scored their 2nd goal of the game at 4:04. For his second of the game Robertson wasn't giving up on his team and put one in the net at 7:58 to make the game 10-3.
With 6 minutes left the Petes scored on the powerplay from Sam Mayer to try and make it back into the game. Finally, on the penalty kill Justin DeZoete squeezed one more goal in at 15:42 to give them a 5-goal spread. The Bulldogs finished out the game strong and after 60 minutes of the Bulldogs skated away with a 10-5 win.
The Hamilton Bulldogs are back home Thursday December 30that 7:00pm to face the Erie Otters at the FirstOntario Center.
