Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires got out to a lead and never looked back; although the game was closer then they would have liked.
In the first period, it was the Spitfires who got on the board first but it took over half the period to do so. The Spitfires were on the powerplay when Daniel D'Amico buried his 8th on the season as the puck came free to him in the slot and he made no mistake. Johnston and Henault drew assists on the goal. Just 3 minutes later on a negated icing call that was beat out by D'Amico turned into the Spitfires 2nd goal. D'Amico retrieved the puck and went around the net and fed Maillet wide open in the slot for his first goal as a Spitfire. The Spitfires had a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes and lead in shots 12-4.
In the 2nd period, the Spitfires kept the momentum and scored just over 5 minutes into the period to take a commanding 3-0 lead. D'Amico took the puck off a turnover and fed Christopoulos for a 2 on 0 break and Christopoulos kept it and scored his 3rd on the season. Late in the period the Spirit scored to make it 3-1 and the teddy bears flew giving the game an early intermission. The Spitfires lead in shots 16-12. The 1:15 remaining was played after the intermission but nothing happened.
In the third period, it took the Spitfires just 25 seconds to restore the three-goal lead. Maggio in front of the net alone buried a rebound from a sharp angle shot by Johnston. Just a few minutes later Saginaw scored to make it a 4-2 game. Just over halfway through the period the Spirit was awarded a penalty shot and they scored to make it a 4-3 game. Just 30 seconds later Saginaw tied it at 4. Just under two minutes later Miedema score to give the Spitfires a 5-4 lead. Just 1:40 later the Spirit tied it right back up at 5. With 2:05 remaining Ribau scored unassisted after he shot it and it squeaked through the wickets of the Saginaw netminder. With 30 seconds left Johnston scored an empty netter and the Spitfires won their 6th straight with a 7-5 victory.
The Spitfires are back in action after a Christmas break on December 28th in Kitchener, puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
