Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit (11-12-1-0) return to The Dow Event Center Friday night to face their West Division rival Windsor Spitfires (13-8-2-2). Tonight, marks the third of eight meetings this season between the Spirit and the Spitfires, with the Spirit edging the Spits in the previous two games by the same 6-5 score.
Head-to-Head
Saginaw and Windsor have partaken in two, wildly entertaining hockey games with offense aplenty. The two teams combined for 22 goals in six full periods and a 5:00 overtime, with Saginaw winning two, 6-5 games. The first came back on Nov. 26 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor. After Spirit captain Cam Baber opened the scoring, Kyle McDonald and Ethan Martin answered for the Spirit to give them a 2-1 advantage. The Spirit would score the next five goals in the game to take a 6-2 lead late in the second period. The Spirit saw their four-goal bulge dwindle in the third. The Spits scored three times in just over 7:00 to make it 6-5. Saginaw's goaltender Andrew Oke shut the door with an impressive final 12:00 of the game to give the Spirit a 6-5 win. The next night, the Spirit hosted the Spirit at The Dow. With revenge on their mind, the Spits got out to a 1-0 lead. Dalton Duhart tied it up on the power play before the horn signaled the end of the period. This time the Spirit would score four goals in the middle frame to take a 5-2 lead. Again, Windsor battled back and unlike Friday, would tie this game in regulation at 5:01 on Oliver Peer's first OHL goal. In overtime, Calem Mangone provided the game-winner at 3:01 as the Spirit swept the weekend set from the Spitfires.
