Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads picked up a point in a 2-1 series finale overtime loss to the Fresno Falcons Saturday night before a sold out Bank of America Centre. Idaho won the three-game series, picking up five of a possible six points to maintain the fourth-place playoff spot in the ECHL's West Division.

The teams skated to a scoreless first period, despite three power play opportunities for Fresno to Idaho's one. The Falcons outshot Idaho 9-3 in the frame, but Idaho's newly acquired goaltender Matt Yeats didn't face a shot until midway through the period.

The Falcons had a five-on-three at the midway point of the second period and capitalized 34-seconds into it. Terry Marchant passed across Idaho's crease to Dan Tessier and scored the first goal of the game, a power play goal, at 9:36. The 1-0 lead held through to the final period.

Idaho tied the game with a beautiful goal by Mike Stutzel at 5:53 of the third period. Stutzel fought off Corey Hessler who was hanging on his back as he skated the puck down center ice and managed to get a slap shot off that beat Brett Jaeger five hole. The tally was Stutzel's 8th point (4 goals, 4 assists) in eight games played with the Steelheads since being assigned by the AHL Utah Grizzlies. Both Idaho and Fresno had power play chances late in the third, but neither team could get the game-winner, sending it to sudden-death overtime for the second time in two nights.

In overtime, Fresno skated the puck in to Idaho's end and Yeats came out of the crease to make the play. Yeats made the save, but couldn't hold on to the puck and it bounced out from Yeats and rebounded off a sliding Darrell Hay to Fresno's Lanny Gare who scored on an empty net.
