Another Aces sellout, another 3-1 win over Vegas
March 27, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Playing in front of another standing-room-only crowd of 6,451, Alaska closed out its home schedule with a 3-1 win over Las Vegas Saturday and finished the regular season unbeaten in its last 11 games at Sullivan Arena.
The Aces, who went 7-0-1 in front of eight capacity crowds this year at home, turned in a solid defensive effort, limiting the visitors to just 19 shots in support of goaltender Matt Underhill, who arrived in Anchorage at the trading deadline and made his debut in an Alaska sweater a successful one. Charles Linglet opened the game's scoring by banging home a rebound at 5:31 of the first period for his 25th goal of the year. The only goal permitted by Underhill tied the game 1-1 with 2:22 left in the opening frame, as Matt Dzieduszycki's wrist shot from the top of the circle found the back of the net through a screen.
Chris Minard scored what turned out to be the game-winner midway through the second period, sliding his ECHL-leading 46th goal of the year underneath a prostrate Marc Magliarditti, who made several fine stops to keep Las Vegas in the game at 2-1. But the Wranglers never got the equalizer, coming closest late in the third period when Jason Bonsignore hit the crossbar with a re-direction in front of Underhill. Mike Scott sealed the victory with an empty-netter at 18:59.
Alaska, still armed with a six-point lead in the West Division, will finish the 2004-05 regular season on the road, beginning with Friday's date against second-place Long Beach at 6:30 p.m. AST. The next night, the Aces travel to Fresno, still fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West, in a game that will be played at 6:00 p.m. AST in the Save-Mart Center. The trip ends with three more games against Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena April 5, 8, and 9.
All Alaska games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. Four of the five road games remaining for the Aces will be made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks (the April 1game against the Ice Dogs will be on KFQD only).
