Ice Dogs Get Revenge, Down Gulls 5-2

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (39-19-8) defeated the San Diego Gulls (33-26-6) by a score of 5-2, just 24 hours after the Gulls defeated the Ice Dogs in San Diego. The win gives the Ice Dogs 86 points and sole possession of 2nd place in the West Division standings after Bakersfield lost to Gwinnett tonight to fall two points back.

The Ice Dogs got the scoring started just 4:47 into the game when Joe Cardarelli got his 20th of the season with an assist from Gary Zinck. San Diego tied it up at 13:39 on the power play and the score remained tied heading into the second. At 14:59 of the second, Evan Cheverie put the Ice Dogs back up on top on the power play. Just 16 seconds later Cardarelli got his second of the game on the power play to make it 3-1. The Gulls managed to get within one with 23 seconds to go in the period to send the Ice Dogs into the final period with a 3-2 lead.

In the third, Marco Rosa scored just 41 seconds into the period, with assists from Christian Larrivee and Joe Cardarelli, who got his third point of the night. Yuri Moscevsky made it 5-2 Ice Dogs just 21 seconds later, and the score would remain that until the final buzzer. Long Beach goaltender, Sebastien Centomo, won his fourth straight game since joining the Ice Dogs, making 27 saves. Eddy Ferhi of San Diego gave up five goals on 31 shots the night after shutting out the Ice Dogs, 2-0. Long Beach finished 2-6 on the power play while San Diego went 1-5.
