Brampton Steelheads News Release

The Mississauga Steelheads erased a two-goal first period deficit to defeat the Barrie Colts on Friday night. Two goals from Alan Lyszczarczyk and Liam Ham's third period goal led the Trout to a 6-3 victory.

Friday night's first period against the Barrie Colts had a somewhat worrying beginning, as the Colts jumped out to an early two-goal lead. Matthew Sredl would be the first Colt to score his first career goal. The rookie darted into the slot and beat Jacob Ingham with a shot back across his body. The Colts would double the lead through Tyler Tucker just moments later. The St. Louis Blues draft-pick with a rocket past Ingham. The Steelheads would strike back through Aidan Prueter's 11th of the season with 3:13 remaining in the first. Prueter would have a prolonged wait to begin his celebration as the goal was initially waved off by the referee behind the net. A call upstairs would confirm that the Steelheads had in fact cut the Colts lead in half. The Trout would draw a penalty to end the first period.

The early power play would help the Trout on their way to dominating the second frame. The team would fire 15 shots on goal. Alan Lyszczarczyk would supply the tying-goal on the power play. His 34th goal of the season came via a brilliantly worked Tic-Tac-Toe play in collaboration with Cole Schwindt and Thomas Harley. The Steelheads leading-scorer would pop up again just 2:22 later. The Steelheads this time would show their passing prowess on a perfectly executed 3-on-2 play. Liam Ham patiently waited for Lyszczarczyk to get in position and finish off his 35th of the campaign into a wide-open net. The Trout's lead wouldn't last to the intermission, the second Barrie Colt career-first goal would come from Jake Partridge with 6:17 remaining on the clock in the 2nd period. A Jason Willms cross-check with just 23 seconds left in the second period handed the Steelheads a man-advantage to start another period.

The game-deciding goal would come early in the third period, Liam Ham turned from distributor to finisher for this 11th of the season. From there the Steelheads would get into their finishing kick to distance themselves from the Colts. Richard Whittaker's spinning shot snuck into the top-right corner past Jet Greaves to give the Steelheads a two-goal lead. The Steelheads would limit the Colts to only six shots in the final frame. CJ Clarke's empty netter iced the game, Callan Christner putting in the hard work to set-up the veteran forward for his 10th of the season. The win by a final score of 6-3 puts the Steelheads just one point or a Barrie loss away from clinching a playoff spot.

Liam Ham's takeaways from the game "We started off down so it's a big for a character win, coming back and then scoring six goals..., you can't ask for much more"

James Richmond of his team's performance "We made some mistakes that cost us, but I thought our guys were real good for 60 minutes."

The Steelheads will return to action Sunday in Ottawa against the first-place 67's.
