Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Ontario Hockey League has suspended Owen Sound Attack overage defenceman Trent Bourque five games for an incident that occurred during the February 23rd game against the Erie Otters.

Bourque and Otters forward Gera Poddubnyi got into an altercation after the Otters first goal of the game. During this altercation Bourque was heard to have referred to Poddubnyi as an "Expletive Euro". As a result, the officials assessed Bourque with a Game Misconduct penalty, which carries an automatic five game suspension under the leagues bullying and diversity policies.

"My choice of words was inappropriate and I regret the use of them. There was never any intention of harming Gera. With that said, I would like to apologize to Gera, the Erie Otters, the Owen Sound organization and the fans of both teams. I am truly sorry." said Bourque.

Bourque began serving his suspension on Sunday, February 24th against the Niagara Ice Dogs and will be eligible to return to the Attack line-up on Thursday, March 7th in Windsor.
