Niagara IceDogs pressure the North Bay Battalion

The Niagara IceDogs kicked off their 3 in 3 weekend tonight in North Bay. The last time these two teams faced each other, in Niagara on Teddy Bear Toss night. The 'Dogs are coming into this game on a 4-game win streak, during which they've outscored their opponents 29-4.
The IceDogs dominated the first period. It wasn't until the 16:39 mark of the period that Battalion registered their first shot of the game. Although the 'Dogs dominated the period, the Battalion goaltender was making the necessary saves to keep the game at a scoreless draw. That was until the 19:45 point in the period. Akil Thomas carried the puck into the offensive zone and passed the puck forward to a pinching Jacob Paquette. Paquette got the puck to Philip Tomasino who dazzled his way into the slot. Tomasino made a cross-crease pass to Akil Thomas, who, despite being crossed checked to the ice, put the puck into a nearly open net to get Niagara on the board first in the game to carry a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
Just 15 seconds into the second period, Jack Studnicka scored his 30th goal of the season, banking the puck into the net off a shot from Jason Robertson. Robertson's assist on Studnicka's goal was with 100th point of the season, his 300th career regular season OHL point, and extended his point-streak to 19 games, surpassing his 18-game point-streak earlier this season. Kirill Maksimov added two goals in the middle frame, while the Battalion broke Stephen Dhillon's 2-game shutout streak with two goals. The IceDogs lead 4-2 heading into the 3rd period.
The Battalion scored the only goals of the 3rd period going into the final 9 minutes of the game. After the Battalion tied the game at 4, it was Philip Tomasino who put the team on his back to bring the 'Dogs ahead by 1! Tomasino's goal turned out to be the game winning goal, his 12th, and team/league leading game winning goal this season. Matt Philip secured the 6-4 win by outworking the Battalion defender along the boards to score into the empty net in the final minute of play.
The IceDogs' character was tested against a potential first round playoff match-up and battled their way to the deserving win!
The 'Dogs are back in action at home next Sunday afternoon to the Sarnia Sting, following tomorrow nights game in Barrie.
