Wolves Bite Too Much for Attack
March 1, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack looked to build off their win in North Bay on Friday night, but ran into a strong push from a top Eastern Conference contender in the Sudbury Wolves. The Wolves were able to control the play most of the game resulting in a 9-1 loss for the Attack. Maskim Sushko had the lone goal for the Attack, while Andrew MacLean allowed 9 goals on 43 shots in the loss.
The first period did not go the way the Attack had hoped, with the Sudbury Wolves carrying the bulk of the play and frustrating the Attacks breakout at every turn. The Wolves opened the scoring just 3:11 into the game when Blake McConville came off the side board and beat MacLean over the glove. The Wolves made it 2-0 just 30 seconds later when Carson Macauley found the back of the net. The Wolves and Attack exchanged goals in the final five minutes of the period with Jack Thompson tallying for the Wolves, while Sushko grab a rebound off the pads of rookie Wolves netminder David Bowen and slide it past him to cut the lead to 3-1 with just over a minute to play in the period.
The second period began much like the first with the Wolves having sustained pressure. The Wolves once again found the back of the net early in the second period when Adam Ruzicka was sprung on a breakaway and made no mistake beating MacLean on the blocker side to restore the three goal lead. For the remainder of the period the Attack began to battle back and get some sustained pressure and opportunities in the Wolves end, but unfortunately were not able to beat the rookie goalie. The Wolves score two late goals in the period to extend their lead to 6-1 after two periods.
The trend continued in the third period with the Wolves scoring 2 goals in the first two minutes and 30 seconds of the period. The Attack did push back and generate some opportunities, but were unable to solve Bowen. The Wolves added a ninth goal with just over 6 minutes to play in the game. The game ended in a 9-1 defeat for the Attack.
The Owen Sound Attack will now have a day off as they look to the final game of the Northern Swing against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday, March 3rd . Game time is set for 2:07pm and can be seen on Rogers Cable 53, the OHL Action Pack, OHL Live and heard on 560 CFOS Terry Trailers Service/KIA of Owen Sound Bear Radio.
