Steelheads Acquire Dallas Stars Draft Pick Luke Gazdic

Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that left wing Luke Gazdic has signed an ECHL contract and will be on Idaho's roster for the team's two remaining regular season games this weekend.

Gazdic, 6-foot-3 and 220-pounds, was a 2007 sixth round draft pick (172nd overall) by the Dallas Stars. Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal is familiar with the 19-year-old Toronto, Ont. native as he played on the championship team coached by Laxdal during the Dallas Stars 2008 NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, MI.

The big forward has played the last three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters, posting 72 points (42g-30a) in 188 games, with 407 penalty minutes.

Idaho has two regular season games remaining on home ice this weekend against Phoenix. The team begins its quest for a third ECHL Kelly Cup on Saturday, Apr. 11 at Qwest Arena. The seeding order and the Steelheads' opponent for the National Conference, West Division's first round of postseason play is still to be determined.

* The Steelheads team and mascot 'blue' will be making an appearance and signing autographs at RC Willey on Eagle Road Saturday morning (Apr. 5) from 10:30 - 11:45 am. Fans will have a chance to win prizes, receive free pizza, and get special pricing on playoff tickets.

* End of season team awards will be presented during a pregame ceremony on Saturday.
