April 3, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (24-42-5= 53; 7th North Division) of the ECHL trailed the entire way in a 5-1 loss to the Trenton Devils at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals lost for the sixth consecutive time against the Devils and fell to 3-9-2 in the season series. Michael Ouzas (loss; 20-22-1; 25/29; 17:10) started and sustained the loss; Beau Erickson (no decision, 25/26; 32:50) came in after the fourth Trenton goal in the second period and was tested through the remainder of the night. Gerald Coleman (win, 28-9-3; 26/27) won for the sixth time against the Royals (6-0-1). Reading finally broke through on their last power play chance of the night (1-4). The Devils struck on their first opportunity of the game with the man advantage (1-6).
Trenton rang off five consecutive goals, starting 2:04 into the game when Tony Zancanaro's shot went by the net on the right side and came out on the left, where Matt Radoslovich crashed for the virtual tap in. Thirty-seven seconds later Jeremy Akeson's shot from just inside the blue line deflected off a Reading defender into the upper corner. 13:05 into the first, Zancanaro scored his fifth of the season from point blank range while the Devils were on the power play. The Devils then added a pair from Eric Castonguay-both snap shots from the deep slot-at the 7:20 and 9:20 marks of the second period. The Royals finally got on the board with a power play goal by Ben Gordon-his twentieth goal of the year-with just 4:17 remaining. But that was far too little, far too late in this one, as the Royals fell to 13-22-0 at the Sovereign Center.
The Royals finish the 2008-09 season tomorrow night (Saturday, April 4, 2009 @ 7:05) at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania with Wawa Fan Appreciation Night.. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
