-SPIKES START BACK HALF OF ROAD TRIP: The State College Spikes continue a four-game road trip, their first extended excursion away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in 2014, with the first of two games against the Batavia Muckdogs tonight at Dwyer Stadium. Batavia took two out of three games against the Spikes this past week at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Muckdogs are also tied with Brooklyn for the best record through the first nine games in the New York-Penn League. State College is 40-43 all-time against Batavia, with a 17-22 record in games played at Dwyer Stadium.

-LAST NIGHT: Andrew Sohn's first professional home run began a big sixth inning and started a string of six unanswered State College Spikes runs to send them past the Jamestown Jammers, 6-2, on Saturday night at Russell Diethrick Park. Sohn sent a solo shot over the left field wall as the leadoff man in the sixth inning. The Spikes (would go on score four runs in the frame to erase a 2-0 deficit. Jhohan Acevedo and Danny Diekroeger each tripled to keep the State College scoring burst going, with Alex De Leon's wall-ball double also plating a run. The Spikes received superb relief pitching from Tyler Bray, who made his professional debut on Saturday, and Nick Lomascolo. Bray retired all six batters he faced, including three strikeouts, for the win. Lomascolo tossed three scoreless frames, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out two.

-GOMBER MAKES PRO DEBUT TONIGHT: Left-hander Austin Gomber, the fourth-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2014, gets the mound call tonight for State College in his professional debut. Gomber, the highest-drafted player in this year's class currently with the Spikes, was selected out of Florida Atlantic University, where he led Conference USA in strikeouts this season with 72 in 77 1/2 innings. The Winter Garden, FL native was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference in 2013 after posting a 2.80 ERA for the lowest mark in the loop. Gomber becomes the third straight Spikes starter to make his pro debut, following Daniel Poncedelon and Cody Schumacher.

-MUCKDOGS' MENDOZA MEETS SPIKES AGAIN: Right-hander Yeims Mendoza makes the start for Batavia tonight after facing State College this past Tuesday at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park. Mendoza went three-plus innings and took the loss for the Muckdogs after being tagged with three runs, two of them earned, on two hits and two walks. The righty also struck out one, and gave up a homer to Rowan Wick. A native of Villa de Cura in the Dominican Republic, Mendoza spent each of the past four seasons with the Dominican Summer League Marlins. Last year, the righty went 4-5 with a 3.00 ERA in 15 appearances, 10 of them starts. Mendoza compiled a stellar 83 strikeouts over 78 innings while walking just 15 batters.

-WICK-ED WITH THE BAT : Rowan Wick has been on a historic tear through the beginning of the Spikes' season, becoming the only player in franchise history with five homers through the season's first five games. His six homers are now the most for any Spike in the month of June, besting 2006 Spike Mark Hamilton, who had five. Wick is over halfway to David Washington's club record of 10 home runs in a single season, and has at least one homer in every Spikes series this year. The North Vancouver, BC native's ten RBI are tied for third-most in the New York-Penn League, and his .344 average is seventh in the loop.

-SPIKE MARKS: The triples for Acevedo and Diekroeger last night were the first triples of the year for any Spike...Robelys Reyes holds a .360 batting average, tied for fourth-best in the NYPL...Fernando Baez has allowed only one baserunner in his first 6 2/3 innings of relief this year for the Spikes, a walk...Acevedo's five stolen bases are second-most in the NYPL this year...Brian O'Keefe has been hit by three pitches already...Batavia leads the league in team batting average with a .245 mark
