Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Another Extra-Inning Loss
After playing 10 innings of scoreless baseball, the Aberdeen IronBirds gave up three runs in the top of the 11th to end up losing to the Brooklyn Cyclones 3-1. RHP Dylan Bundy started on the mound for the IronBirds. He pitched five innings, gave up two hits, one walk and recorded nine strikeouts, tying an IronBirds season-high. Despite Bundy's solid play, the IronBirds' offense couldn't get going as they recorded only three hits through the first nine innings. The Cyclones' RHP Marcos Molina had a good night as he went seven innings and only gave up two hits while collecting five strikeouts to earn a 0.69 ERA. This loss marks the second time the IronBirds have lost by two runs and the third time they've lost in extra innings; the rest of their six losses were all by one run.
Bundy on point
Bundy dominated the headlines heading into the game as he made his second start while on his minor league rehab assignment. Bundy was the No. 4 overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2011 MLB Draft. In his first start against the Hudson Valley Renegades on June 15th, Bundy pitched five innings while allowing five hits, one earned run and got six strikeouts. Brian Graham, director of player development for the Orioles, was in the dugout watching Bundy to see how he's progressed since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2013. Bundy showed good control of his fastball as he consistently got it in the 92-97 MPH range. He also improved his off-pitch location as he struck out three different batters with his change-up. Bundy is expected to make one more appearance for the IronBirds before the Orioles re-evaluate his rehab assignment.
Batting Woes
In the IronBirds first game against the Cyclones they managed to get six runs and seven hits through six innings, but last night the IronBirds managed to only get three without any runs in nine innings. They were able to score a run and get two hits in the bottom of the 11th but that was it. C Alex Murphy extended his hitting streak to five games in his first at bat before going 1-4. The IronBirds are 2-17 with runners in scoring position this series.
Last Game of Series
Tonight's game is the third and final game of the series against the Brooklyn Cyclones, who are first in the McNamara division at 7-2.
