JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Jammers have stumbled out of the gates in 2014. After a 2-1 start, the team has lost six games in a row, and now find themselves with a record of 2-7. There is still a lot of season left however, and the Jammers will try to gain some momentum today at 4:05pm against Williamsport in the first game of a 2-game series at Diethrick Park. Today is Cummins Community Care night at the ball park. Tomorrow night at 7:05pm, New York State Stop-DWI will be presenting Stop-DWI night at Diethrick Park. There will be information tables, literature, and giveaways all courtesy of NYS Stop-DWI, and a representative from the New York State Police will throw out the first pitch.
Probable Pitchers
Sunday June 22nd: RHP Mitch Gueller (Williamsport, 0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. RHP Austin Coley (Jamestown, 0-1, 32.40 ERA)
Mitch Gueller: In his first start of the season for the Crosscutters (June 17th against Jamestown), Gueller threw four shutout innings, only gave up two hits, and struck out three Jammers. He is a former first round pick in the 2012 draft that is trying to find some consistency here in the New York-Penn League.
Austin Coley: Coley will be looking to bounce back from a rough start to his season. On June 17th against this same Williamsport team, Coley only went 1 2/3 innings, gave up six earned runs, and two home runs. He was an 8th round pick in this year's Draft out of Belmont University.
Monday June 23rd: RHP Alejandro Arteaga (Williamsport, 0-1, 4.50 ERA) vs. RHP Frank Duncan (Jamestown, 0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Alejandro Arteaga: In 2 starts so far for Williamsport, Arteaga has thrown 10 innings, given up 12 hits, has an ERA of 4.50, and has a record of 0-1. He was acquired as an international free agent in 2011, and is from Pal Negro, Venezuela.
Frank Duncan: Duncan was drafted in the 13th round this year out of the University of Kansas. In his only start of the year to this point (June 18th against Williamsport), Duncan went three innings, gave up three hits, and gave up one unearned run. He is from San Francisco, California.
Players to Watch: Williamsport
Cord Sandberg (Outfielder): The 3rd round pick in 2013 has fired out of the gates this season. In nine games, Sandberg is hitting .368, has 14 hits, and leads the Crosscutters in RBIs with nine.
Jiandido Tromp (Outfielder): In eight games to this point in the NYPL season, Tromp is hitting .281 for Williamsport, has 9 hits, two home runs, and 6 RBIs.
Players to Watch: Jamestown
Chase Simpson (Infielder): Last night against the State College Spikes, Simpson connected on his second home run of the year. Also, he is hitting .292 through seven games so far this season.
Carl Anderson (Outfielder): Anderson has swung the bat well pretty much all season to this point. Last night, he had two more hits, with one being a triple down the right field line. He currently leads the Jammers in hitting with a .325 batting average.
