Jammers Erupt for Nine Runs, Halt Losing Streak at Six

June 22, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY -After almost a week of tough losses, the Jamestown Jammers had finally had enough. The Jammers exploded offensively, scoring four runs in the first inning, and five runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Williamsport Crosscutters 9-3 Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park.

For the Jammers in the first, their four runs were scored on two hits, and one error by the Crosscutters. Center fielder Carl Anderson, and left fielder Jordan Luplow started the inning with consecutive singles. Third basemen Chase Simpson and first basemen Kevin Ross hit sac fly's, and the Williamsport Crosscutters made one error that contributed to the Jammers posting four in the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Simpson would start the inning with a walk, and would be driven in by the next batter, catcher Kevin Krause, who connected on a 2-run home run over the left field wall. First basemen Kevin Ross would then single, shortstop Tyler Filliben would be hit by a pitch, and right fielder Francisco Aponte would single. However, Ross was thrown out at home on Aponte's base hit. Second basemen Erik Lunde would then drive in Filliben and Aponte with a 2-RBI double down the right field line, and would later score on a wild pitch to conclude the Jammers scoring.

Luplow, Ross, and Simpson would all end up with multiple hits for the Jammers.

Austin Coley, the starting pitcher for the Jammers, bounced back in a great way after a rough first outing this season. In three innings pitched, Coley would only surrender one run, while giving up four hits. Jose Regalado would relieve Coley in the fourth inning and would only surrender one run in 2 1/3 innings of work. Andy Otamendi would then come in and throw 1 2/3 innings of shut-out ball, and Julio Eusebio would get a scoreless inning in himself to get the Jammers pitching staff through eight innings with only giving up two runs. Oderman Rocha would come on to pitch the top of the ninth, and would give up two hits and a run, but would end up settling down and sealing up the win for the Jammers.

For Williamsport, right fielder Cord Sandberg had three hits to raise his batting average to .395 on the season, and left fielder Justin Parr would have two hits himself.

Jamestown and Williamsport will wrap up their series tomorrow at 7:05pm. It will be Stop-DWI Night at Diethrick Park presented by New York State Stop-DWI. There will be information tables, literature, and giveaways all courtesy of NYS Stop-DWI, and a representative from the New York State Police will throw out the first pitch. Righty Frank Duncan will start for the Jammers, and will be opposed by Alejandro Arteaga of the Crosscutters.
